The short answer
Halbtrocken is a regulated sweetness term. Feinherb has no legally fixed residual-sugar limit. Two feinherb wines can therefore taste quite different. Treat the word as a style indication rather than a measurement.
What the analysis tells you
Compare residual sugar alongside acidity. Sugar alone does not describe the whole tasting experience. Try two wines at similar temperatures and initially without food. Note which seems drier, rounder or fresher to you; a memorised aroma vocabulary is unnecessary.
Two Rieslings from our range
Our 2025 dry Riesling Spätlese and 2024 feinherb Riesling Kabinett offer a useful comparison. Their product pages show the analysis. As these are different wines and vintages, this is personal exploration rather than a controlled experiment. Kabinett and Spätlese do not replace a sweetness description.
Choosing with more confidence
Tell us which wine you last enjoyed and what you plan to serve. That is more useful than “not too sweet”. To compare in person, request a tasting appointment. Choose by your preference, not by assuming one category is better.
