There is no deadline for every bottle
WSET suggests up to five days as a freshness guide for resealed white or red wine in the refrigerator, not a shelf-life guarantee.
A simple routine
Reseal and refrigerate the bottle upright, including red wine. Note the opening date to keep track. Before your next meal, set aside only the bottle you actually intend to use.
Compare when reopening
Pour a small amount first and consider whether it still smells and tastes as you like. A clearly changed impression is a reason not to serve it with your meal. A diagnosis based only on elapsed days would be unreliable. For a complaint, keep a bottle photo, vintage and opening date.
Plan rather than opening everything
At a small gathering, open only the bottles you need first. Small tasting pours and water are enough for comparison. Our tasting at the estate is another way to explore several styles.
